The last of the three books in Sendak’s noted trilogy (the others being Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen), Outside Over There won a Caldecott Honor in 1982 and features some of Sendak’s most striking work. When Ida’s father goes to sea, she is left to safeguard her young sister. But in a moment of weakness, the child is kidnapped by the goblins and Ida has to travel to Outside Over There in order to bring her sister home.
