BLACK BOOKS MATTER

Last Stop on Market Street is a picture book aimed at much younger kids and sporting less than 700 words. This moving and poetic story of CJ and his nana riding a downtown bus to help serve in a soup kitchen is beautifully illustrated and was a 2016 Caldecott Honor Book. Additionally, it was awarded that year’s Newbery Medal, so unlike previous winners that its selection became highly controversial. It was published much earlier the previous year and not in large quantities making finding true first printings almost impossible. Consequently, it has achieved almost unheard of selling prices for a relatively recent publication. Offered here is a Fine first printing in a Fine dust jacket, boldly signed by author de la Pena on the title page.
