BLACK BOOKS MATTER

Marilyn Nelson’s collection of poems about the life of George Washington Carver features occasional black and white photographs of the noted African-American botanist and inventor. Carver: A Life in Poems was selected as both a 2002 Newbery Honor Book and a Coretta Scott King Honor Book. Additionally, it was a National Book Award finalist and won the Boston Globe/Horn Book Award.
