It happens rarely, but every once in a while a book is honored with both Newbery and Caldecott awards. Such was the case with Nancy Willard’s book of poetry, A Visit to William Blake’s Inn, which won both the Newbery Medal and a Caldecott Honor in 1982. Blake is the inspiration for both the fantastical poems by Willard and the remarkable illustrations by the Provensens. Of geeky bibliographic interest is that this is one of the very few books in which a true first edition/printing is indicated by a letter “B” in the letter line following the “First Edition” designation…an exception that proves the rule! A first edition in Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket.
