The Birthday Cake is a terrific read-aloud for youngsters with funny pop-ups by Ron Van der Meer. Each page features a pop-up of an animal who wants to eat a cake, but is scared away by a larger animal beneath a movable flap: the mouse by a cat, the cat by a dog, the dog by a lion, and so on.
