Tom Seidmann-Freud is one of the truly tragic figures in the history of children's books. The niece of Sigmund Freud, she had an eccentric character and an equally innovative style of illustration. Among her most famous children's books are the remarkable movables, Das Wunderhaus (The House of Wonders) and Das Zauberboot (The Magic Boat). The former features eight amazing color moveable or transforming full-page plates including tabs, a color card which transforms an illustration, 16 images revealed as sets by a cutaway overlay , a turning wheel which changes images in a window, and more. Despite their fine design and remarkable format, Seidmann-Freud's book became increasingly scarce during Hitler's reign, as her Jewish faith contributed to their destruction by the Nazis. This original 1929 German edition is in VG+ condition with some minor staining to the boards, wear to a few tabs and the transforming color card in facsimile. The two other overlays are completely original.
