Since 1958, the American Library Association has sponsored National Library Week, usually falling during the second week of April. Each year, the celebration has a different theme.

This original 22 x 17” poster (declaring “Be all you can be. Read.”) was created by famous cartoonist Whitney Darrow Jr. for the 1969 National Library Week. Darrow was one of the New Yorker’s most notable early cartoonists (along with James Thurber, Charles Addams, and Peter Arno) and published more than 1,500 cartoons in that publication during his 50-year career. This colorful poster is in Very Fine condition and depicts a young boy jetting through the skies on a book.
