In addition to the printed program that accompanies most Newbery/Caldecott celebratory dinners sponsored by the American Library Association, there are often publisher’s inserts that are available to all attendees. I strongly suspect that this die-cut promotional piece for Simms Taback’s Joseph Had a Little Overcoat (Viking, 1999), the 2000 Caldecott award-winner, was one of these. The brochure opens to reveal text from Taback’s Caldecott acceptance speech and is accompanied by a small (2 x 3-1/2”) plastic envelope with the book’s cover and “Caldecott 2000” on the front and scissors, a ruler, needles and thread inside.
