This large (28 x 19”) color poster was created to support the WWI American war effort and features a doughboy, his rifle and canteen by his side, climbing a staircase of books labeled Farming, Citizenship, Machine-shop Work, Business, Law, Foreign Trade, and more. Created by the American Library Association and reading “Knowledge Wins. Public Library Books Are Free,” this is in VG condition with one small closed tear on the white border and a diagonal fold line through the lower third of the poster art. A bit of conservation could turn this into an A+ vintage poster. Illustrated by Dan Smith and dated 1917, based on America’s entry into the war in April of that year.
