First published in 1823, Clement Clarke Moore's poem, A Visit of St. Nicholas (now popularly known by it's first line "'Twas the Night Before Christmas...") quickly became emblematic of the holiday season and popularized Santa Claus as the bearer of presents for good girls and boys. This McLoughlin Bros. version, dating from around 1890, is filled with the most evocative and beautiful chromolithographs imaginable, some of them double-page.
