First published in 1823, Clement Clarke Moore's poem, A Visit of St. Nicholas (now popularly known by it's first line "'Twas the Night Before Christmas...") quickly became emblematic of the holiday season and popularized Santa Claus as the bearer of presents for good girls and boys. This McLoughlin Bros. version, dating from around 1890, is filled with the most evocative and beautiful chromolithographs imaginable, some of them double-page. One of the very best versions of this iconic poem, regardless of the title. With two archivally closed tears to the front cover and both outer corners strengthened on the rear cover, otherwise VG+.
