Pere Castor published a wide variety of children's books in France, reaching a height of popularity similar to that of Little Golden Books in America. Employing a creative stable of authors and illustrators, Pere Castor books sometimes employed novelty forms: changing images, panoramas, coloring books and so on. This large (11" x 13") shadow book comes complete with a stage curtain (back cover), music and lyrics, and figures to be cut out to perform seven scenes: "En Passant par la Lorraine" (Going Through Lorraine), " Joli Tambour," (Pretty Drum), "Le Chevalier du Guet," (The Watchman), "La Légend de Saint-Nocolas," (The Legend of Saint Nicholas), "Gentil Coquelicot," (Nice Poppy), "Comprere Guilleri," (Include Guilleri), "Le Pont du Nord," (The North Bridge), "Les Trois Souhaits," (The Three Wishes), and "La Princesse sur un Pois" (The Princess on a Pea). Very rare to find this unused and in VG+ condition; a bit of exterior wear, but uncut and with complete shadow figures.
