Set in an alternate England during the reign of King James III, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, imagines a land overrun by vicious wolves who have migrated through a new "channel tunnel" due to extreme cold in Europe. Bonnie and Sylvia and their friend Simon must deal with this new environment while fending off the evil schemes of their governess, Miss Slighcarp. The first in a series entitled the Wolves Chronicles. Black and white illustrations by Pat Marriott capture the time and place (but are almost secondary to the outstanding dust jacket design by Edward Gorey). A first US edition in Fine condition in an About Fine dust jacket.
