Caldecott-winner Arnold Lobel (for Fables in 1981) had a wonderful career and a number of his books remain towards the top of my late-20th century list of favorites. The Great Blueness is one of his very best and not unlike another memorable book about color, Margaret Wise Brown's Color Kittens. Here, the world exists in just shades of grey, black and white until a wizard starts mixing things in his basement and discovers blue. Soon the whole world is colored blue but people grow bored and want more so the wizard discovers yellow. Red follows yellow and when colors blend the entire spectrum is brought forth. A first edition (based on price [$3.95] and dj titles) in VG+ condition in a VG+ dj. The dust jacket was once taped to the book and both retain light ghosts of old adhesive tape marks, otherwise Fine.
