The Morgans are a family of poor black sharecroppers who own a dog, Sounder. When Mr. Morgan is sent to jail for stealing in order to feed his family and Sounder runs away, young David Morgan is left with his mother but never gives up hope that he will see both his father and his dog again. Sounder won the Newbery Medal in 1970 and was released as a popular movie in 1972. This first edition is in Fine condition in an About Fine dust jacket.
