Not quite as dramatic as Some Day I'll Be President or Some Day I'll a Nuclear Physicist, but Some Day I'll Be a Librarian was a perfectly acceptable non-fiction title (especially for young women) in 1967. As a former (male) librarian I'm still amazed at the stereotypes that surround this remarkable, and often cutting-edge, field. It wasn't too many years after the 1967 publication date of this book that I started library school and the 1970's saw a real sea change in the occupation, moving steadily from traditional reference and book work into an increasingly digital age. Regardless, this book is firmly grounded in the past (and the black and white photos of librarians at work do little to erase the image of old ladies in buns), but do give a nod to men in a chapter entitled, "Were Men Meant for Librarianship?"
