C.S. Forester's (of Captain Horation Hornblower fame) book for children, Poo-Poo and the Dragons is fantastically illustrated in black and white (with color endpapers) by Robert Lawson. Young Harold Heavyside Brown (known affectionally as Poo-Poo) discovers a full grown dragon named Horatio in a meadow. Poo-Poo's parents are not very thrilled until Horatio proves his usefulness: he lights Mr. Brown's cigarettes, mows the lawn with his tail and polishes the floors. Mr. and Mrs. Brown are so taken with him that they adopt another dragon, a female named Ermyntrude, and life becomes even more interesting! A first edition of this classic in About Fine condition in an About VG+ dust jacket (with a small closed tear, small chip at tail of the spine and a slight darkening to the edges). Includes a laid-in pre-publication review slip.
