Macmillan's Happy Hour Books presaged a revolution, finally realized by Little Golden Books, in juvenile publishing: inexpensive, well-designed books for children within the reach of middle class families. Additionally, they introduced a number of talented illustrators who later became notables in the children's market: the Haders, Kurt Wiese and Frank Dodias to name a few. Dobias' Little Black Sambo is a standout in the series: a small square volume featuring Art Deco-based dramatic color lithographs. In VG+ condition with minor exterior edge wear.
