A classic British mid-century series, Grandmamma Easy presented interesting topics (the Camel, Addition, the Alphabet, Public Buildings, etc.) to children using striking black and white (often hand-colored) illustrations. The series was published in the United States by Appleton, usually with some changes to appeal to an American audience. Grandmamma Easy's Wonders of a Toy-Shop is 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" pamphlet with 8 hand-colored plates, each extolling the fun and games to be found in a Philadelphia toy store: rocking-horses, toy soldiers, a toy kitchen, building blocks, stuffed animals, and more (including an advertisement for "Children's Books from Appleton's"). With an 1850 inscription from a teacher awarding the book to a good student. In VG condition, tight and complete, but with some exterior soiling and a water stain at the head of the fold between pages, not affecting the illustrations.
