Whenever I'm asked to talk about collecting children's books, I take along some of the d'Aulaires to stress the importance of first editions. Their magnificent lithographs become muddied and worn in later printings. Here the author/illustrators follow two small children through a year in Lapland, Norway's uppermost reaches. Filled with exotic full color and black and white illustrations, this is based on a research trip the d'Aulaires actually made with a guide, reindeer and sleds. This 1935 first edition (not the 1952 reprint) is in Fine condition in a VG+ dust jacket (with small chips at the bottom of the front cover).
