While 78rpm records might not seem like a big deal in this streaming age, this 3-record set of Winnie-the-Pooh Songs (RCA, 1932) holds an important place in that classic book’s history. The paste-on full color illustration on the set’s cover is by Stephen Slesinger who purchased the U.S. and Canadian merchandising trade rights to Winnie-the-Pooh in 1930. The cover illustration to this set is the first time that Pooh appears in color and the very first time that he wears his distinctive (and trademarked) red shirt. The three 7” double-sided records are in VG condition, but have been well-played and have considerable “white-noise” above the rich tenor of Frank Luther singing music by Harold Fraser-Simson. Regardless, the cover illustration is the key here, and one of the most important landmarks in the Pooh story. A first edition set in at least VG+ condition.
