Some children’s books appeal through their illustrations. Others are beautifully written. Still others interest because of their subject matter. And a rare few are just so enticingly weird that we can’t look away. The Wynkies With Moving Eyes, a boxed set of four books (Newark, NJ, Charles E. Graham & Co., nd [ca. 1935]) is one of those. Each of the die-cut volumes (Wynkie Meow (Cat), Wynkie Pony, Wynkie Bow-Wow (Dog), and Wynkie Red Breast (Robin)) features black and white illustrations, a rhyming text, and…most importantly…an attached “google-eye” on the front cover. The cover of the box includes a die-cut plastic window in which you can see the books inside. Both the box and books are in Very Fine condition. Weird and wonderful!
