This illustrated children's book, originally published around 1875 by McLoughlin Brothers of New York, depicts the real-life character Sam Patch, the "Yankee Leaper," one of America's first celebrities. Patch made unbelievable jumps from great heights (from atop flagpoles, towers, and waterfalls...including Niagara Falls) during the 1820s. His last fatal jump from Rochester NY's High Falls into the Genesee River occurred in 1829. McLoughlin Brothers, America's premier publisher of chromolithographed books for children, does him justice in The Wonderful Leaps of Sam Patch, complete with a lively poem and 13 full-color chromos. In About Fine condition.
