Long after it had established itself as perhaps the finest US purveyor of chromolithographic children’s books and games of the 19th century, McLoughlin Brothers moved from New York City to Springfield, Massachusetts and continued publishing for kids (though with less prominence and success). One of their high points was a boxed set of four shape books, The Toddles Boys (Springfield, MA: McLoughlin Bros., 1927). Each of the four books (Thomas Toddles, Peek-a-Boo Peter, Timothy Toddles, and Teddy Toddles) is die-cut and features simple stories and black and white line illustrations. The colorful covers represent both front and back views of each character and are in generally Fine condition. The box shows more wear, but is complete and in al least VG condition. Rare as a complete set.
