High on the list of the most important children’s books of the twentieth century, Marjorie Flack’s The Story About Ping (NY: Viking, 1933) tells the story of a young duckling who lives on a boat with two wise eyes with his father, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles and forty-two cousins. Separated from his brood, he begins an adventure on the Yangtze River, captured in unforgettable full color illustrations by Kurt Wiese. Depictions of the human characters tend toward the stereotypical, but are not particularly offensive. This first edition (with $1.00 on the dj) is in About Fine condition (with a bit of exterior wear and a few stray marks within) in a VG+ restored dj (with a few closed tears, minor color flaking, and rebacked).
