This rare collaboration between artists/word-smiths Joseph Pintauro and Norman Laliberte is called The Rainbow Box (NY: Harper & Row, 1970) and contains a poster and four small art books, each illustrating a season: The Peace Box (Winter), The Rabbit Box (Spring), A Box of Sun (Summer), and The Magic Box (Autumn). To describe these as strictly children’s books is a stretch, they are really art books of the highest order and a direct reflection of the culture and ethos of the late 60’s and early 70’s. The four books and 18 x 24” poster are enclosed in a clear plastic cube. I’ve had this set before (a long, long time ago) and it was encased in a pictorial cardboard box. This may very well be an earlier (or perhaps, later) issue, but the books are all clearly marked “First Edition” and I believe the plastic cube is original to the set as well. In Fine condition.
