Lothar Meggendorfer was, without a doubt, the master of 19th century movable books for children. The Genius of Lothar Meggendorfer (Random House, 1985) features reproductions of 7 (including the cover) movable Meggendorfer plates. The last plate is double-sided, allowing readers to view the mechanism that activates the movement. In addition to the illustrations, this also includes two written pieces: an appreciation by Maurice Sendak and a forward by pop-up publisher Waldo Hunt. A first edition in Very Fine condition.
