What a combination! The Fortune-Tellers (Dutton, 1992) was written by Lloyd Alexander, author of...among many others...The Chronicles of Prydain and illustrated by Caldecott Award-winner (for Saint George and the Dragon, 1985), Trina Schart Hyman. Both are gone now, Alexander died in 2007 and Hyman in 2004, but this book showcases both of them at the top of their game. When a young carpenter goes to a fortune-teller to forecast his future, the answers he receives leads him to practice fortune-telling himself, resulting in humorous and satisfying results. Hyman's illustrations are remarkable, filled with color and detail, and capture the beauty of the people and places of Africa. A first edition in dust jacket in Fine condition, boldly signed on the half title page by both author and illustrator.
