Stephen Foster was America's premier songwriter of the 19th century. Many of his most popular tunes (including The Camptown Races ) were written for the blackface minstrel shows popular at the time and anathema to 21st century sensibilities. The six full page chromolithographs (including the cover art and a double page spread) that illustrate this large  (9-1/4 x 10-3/4") paperback volume feature stereotypical 19th century caricatures of African American horsemen. The illustrations are gleeful, colorful, and full of energy if undeniably racist. In VG+ condition with a crease in the front cover.
