In this day and age, it's impossible to view a book like Edward W. Kemble's The Blackberries without feeling both disgust and marveling at how far we've come. Lots of work still to do, but these 16 large (9 x 12") full color illustrations and accompanying verses are unimaginably racist. Alternate pages feature simple line drawings, are printed in very light brown ink, and sport supposed African American dialectical verses such as: "Who proposed dat crabbing' party? Wish he nabber had been born!" The covers are worn, but complete, and the book is still well-bound. Internally VG+.
