"Adapted from the Famous German "Struwwelpeter" with Original Additions." Heinrich Hoffmann's Der Struwwelpeter was originally published in 1845 and cautioned against childhood misbehavior by illustrating disastrous consequences: play with matches and you catch on fire and are reduced to a pile of ashes; let you hair grow free and birds will build a nest in it, and so on. What makes Peter Teeter Stories remarkable are the aforementioned "additions." These tales have travelled to the USA and feature warnings against the careless handling of fireworks on the Fourth of July and disrespecting Native Americans and Santa Claus. A scarce Hoffmannesque with spectacular full color illustrations by Garman. In VG+ condition with external edge wear.
