Harvey Kurtzman is a demi-god among comix aficionados. The creator of Mad Magazine (he wrote every story…and illustrated many of them…for the publication’s first twenty-three issues, beginning in 1952), he later moved on to Playboy where he scripted and illustrated Little Annie Fanny for many years. Later in life, he mentored several “underground” cartoonists and was instrumental in the careers of Robert Crumb and Gilbert Shelton. His immediately recognizable text and illustrations are on full display in Let’s Take a Ride: Jigsaw Puzzle Book (a 1949 publication by Kunen Publishers). Printed on heavy boards, each page includes several punch-out puzzle pieces (none punched and all completely intact) as part of an illustrated story about Willy and Jilly’s attempt to get to school on time. In Fine condition with just a tiny bit of soiling to the front cover.
