Piracies are a fascinating sub-category of book collecting. This 8vo. (6-3/4 x 9-1/4”) pamphlet is completely unattributed (no publisher, no date, no author or illustrator), but is unquestionably the work of Louis Wain, the creator of an entire world populated by cats (and a few dogs). In Cat Land features 5 (including covers) full-color, full-page illustrations of anthropomorphized cats plus illustrations on every other page in black and white line. Wain, of course, was the famous English illustrator whose comical cats grew more and more wild-eyed as he suffered (apparently) from schizophrenia in his later years.
