Fern Bisel Peat was a favorite illustrator for Saalfield publications and her Grocery Store to Set Up (Akron, OH: Saalfield, 1937) was one of her crowning achievements. An oblong folio (13-12 x 10”), this features both Peat’s colorful paper dolls (a Store Keeper, a Boy, a Child with a Hat, and a Woman) along with hundreds of die-cut objects (vegetable stands, meat stands, fruit baskets, cash registers, chicken coops, etc.) and products (candy, bananas, pies, cereals, canned goods, and more) to create an authentic grocery store circa 1930’s. In Fine condition, unpunched and unused. It’s still a mystery to me how something like this escaped the hands of children!
