For a certain generation, this is the version of Little Black Sambo (#57) that most of us remember. Set vaguely in India (as was the original), this cannot escape some racist caricatures (and the now appalling appellation, Sambo), but is less offensive than many prior versions. A 42-page Little Golden Book (this was later published in a shorter version, sans some illustrations) in an early (F) printing, this benefits from unforgettable illustrations by Gustaf Tenggren, the Swedish-American artist who also worked for Walt Disney. In VG condition with a bit of external wear, evidence of minor rust to the binding staples, and a slightly musty smell. Better than these qualifications sound, but forewarned is forearmed.
