Raymond Briggs is the recipient of two Greenaway Medals (the British equivalent of the Caldecott Medal), one for Father Christmas, a graphic novel-like children's book with great appeal for adults. No jolly Santa here, more a working-class curmudgeon who has to make himself breakfast, read the paper, pack the sleigh, feed the dog (and cat), get dressed, and climb down narrow chimneys, endlessly complaining about "the blooming snow," "@!!!xxx*@ weather," and "blooming feet frozen!" Once home, he relaxes in a hot bath with a bottle of cognac before wishing readers, "Happy Blooming Christmas to You, Too!" One of the great seasonal Christmas books in Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket. A first U.S. edition.
