Charles Perrault's Contes de Temps Passé (Stories from the Past) was first published in Paris in 1697, one of the first and best collections of fairy tales. This 19th century collection of 12 wonderful lithographs by Achille Devéria (1800-1857) measures approximately 6 x 8" and is bound in red leather and marbled paper boards and endpapers, all edges gilt. The lithographs include such popular stories as The Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Blue Beard, and Cinderella as well as a few lesser-known tales. All lithographs were printed by Charles Motte sometime after 1830 ("Lith a Paris and London"); several are blind-stamped with the Motte logo. In generally VG+ condition with scattered light foxing throughout, none significantly affecting the lithos.
