Among the many 50's Western TV stars (Matt Dillon, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Roy Rogers, Maverick, the Lone Ranger, the Cisco Kid), there were darned few women. Probably the most successful was Annie Oakley, starring Gail Davis in the title role from 1954 to 1957. This Little Golden Book, Annie Oakley Sharpshooter (#275), was published in the middle of the TV run. It's Annie's birthday and the town plans a gala surprise party for her at the county fair grounds, interrupted by a runaway wagon carrying the town schoolteacher and heading straight for the train tracks. Will Annie be able to avert disaster? (For fun, look up the synopsis of The Lone Ranger and Tonto, below). A first edition (A) in Fine condition.
