One of the most striking and sought-after Caldecott Medal-winners, the d'Aulaires' Abraham Lincoln (Doubleday Doran, 1939) features the author/illustrators' remarkable five color lithographs and black and white pictures throughout. Based on extensive historical research available at the time of publication, this biography of our 16th president may not be as nuanced as a modern retelling, but it is a credible introduction, beautifully illustrated. Importantly, it includes the original errata slip on one of the final pages, correcting the date of the Emancipation Proclamation. With slight wear to the boards along the bottom edge and small chips to the head and tail of the dust jacket spine, this first edition is in About Fine condition in a VG+ dust jacket.
