An “Indestructible” edition of Santa Claus and His Works (NY: McLoughlin Bros.) with six magnificent chromolithograph plates by Thomas Nast (unattributed), each mounted on a heavy board. The rhyming text by George Webster lays the foundation for what we now recognize as the modern Santa Claus and Nast's illustrations represent one of the first depictions of the jolly, fat, and bearded ambassador of Christmas. In generally VG+ condition with wear to corners, a tiny nick or two inside, and the first plate with a small repaired color pull. The illustrations are the thing here, and they are uniformly terrific. One of the great Christmas books.
