There were a lot of people betting (figuratively) that Wonder, a first novel by R.J. Palacio, would win the Newbery medal in 2013. No such luck! All that it has managed is to stay on the children's best-seller lists since its publication. Go figure. Wonder is the inspiring tale of ten-year-old Auggie, a boy born with such severe facial deformities that he's undergone 27 reconstructive surgeries. He has the same interests and feelings as other pre-teens, but knows that he's not the same: "But I know ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds." A Very Fine first edition copy (with a complete number line) in a Very Fine dust jacket of a remarkable and heart-warming novel, destined to become a classic.
