Cris Van Allsburg is the master of several different illustrative styles. Whether it's the nuanced pencil drawings of Jumanji or the detailed pen and ink of Ben's Dream or the full color renderings of The Polar Express (the 1986 winner of the Caldecott Medal), the result is a delight to the eye. So many Christmas stories have been written over time that it's unusual for a new one to rise to the top, but Van Allsburg certainly achieved that with this tale of a train that transports young believers to the North Pole for the awarding of the first gift of Christmas. A Fine first edition in a Fine dust jacket.
