One of the things I love most about children's books is that each is of a particular time and place. de Angeli's Ted and Nina series takes place during the 1930's in what appears to be a small New England town and it's amazing to see how much times have changed. Ted and Nina Go to the Grocery Store is a simple story...four-year-old Ted and six-year-old Nina are sent by their mother to do a food shopping. Nowadays, what mother in her right mind would send her young children across town unaccompanied to run her errands? And don't even ask what sorts of things are offered in the grocery shop! How different our lives have become; this is like a magic looking glass into another world! de Angeli's delicate illustrations in color and black and white feel just right. In Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket.
