Bullfighting seems to have lost most of its macho appeal, especially here in the States, but Maja Wojciechowska's 1965 Newbery Award-winning Shadow of a Bull sets the stage in the 1920's when this "sport" was at its peak. Young Manolo Oliver has a problem: his father is a famous bullfighter and his family...in fact, the entire town...expects him to follow his father's path as he comes of age. But Manolo has little interest in bullfighting and has to figure out a way to retain his self-respect while asserting his independence. In VG+ condition in a VG+ dust jacket (with a few small stains on the front cover). A scarce Newbery-winner.
