What can we say about Lothar Meggendorfer? The most accomplished and sought-after creator of movable books of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Meggendorfer produced more than 100 books noted for both their lifelike motion and humorous illustration. Lutiges Automaten Theater (later translated and published in England as Comic Actors) features 8 remarkable plates (including two decidedly stereotypical illustrations portraying black subjects). All plates completely workable, but with restoration to the first illustration with one piece in facsimile. Some exterior wear. VG+.
