Artist/author Ed Young was born in China and brought up in Shanghai and his 1990 Caldecott Award-winner, Lon Po Po, draws upon both Eastern graphic design and storytelling. Subtitled A Red-Riding Hood Story from China, it shares many elements with the traditional European version...a wolf, a grandmother...but features three children rather than one. Their encounter with the beast involves a level of bravery and problem solving lacking in the more familiar fairy tale. Dedicated and signed in full on the title page. A first edition in Fine condition in dust jacket.
