Richard Egielski's remarkable illustrations for Arthur Yorinks' Hey, Al won the Caldecott Medal in 1987. When janitor Al and his little dog (and best friend), Eddie, are portrayed early on, their small apartment is pictured in a constrained space and drab colors. But when an exotic bird appears and lures them to an avian fantasy land where all is milk and honey, the illustrations expand to double-page spreads and wild coloration. A modern fable with a happy ending. A first edition in Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket.
