Still one of my favorites in McKinley's remarkable body of work, Beauty was the fantasy author's first book and a harbinger of great things to come. Drawing heavily on and embellishing the classic fairy tale (and preceding the Disney film by more than a decade) , the author created an authentic heroine and a believable love story, all in one. McKinley went on to create the land of Damar and won the Newbery Medal in 1985 for The Hero and the Crown. Beauty was initially published in a small printing and this important first edition is devilishly hard to find. In a Harper Crest reinforced library binding, this is one of the keystones of a twentieth century fantasy collection. In Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket.
