I do love wordless (or nearly wordless) books, allowing the illustrator to tell a story through images alone. 2018’s Caldecott-winner, Wolf in the Snow, is such a volume. As a little girl (dressed in red) and a young wolf pup go astray in a snow storm, the girl finds, carries, and returns the wolf to his pack…and then collapses. The wolf pack’s howls in the night lead her family dog and parents to the young girl and safety. A Fine first edition, first printing dust jacket and book are made all the more desirable by author/illustrator Cordell’s signature and sketch of a wolf on the title page.
