Collecting first edition Caldecott Medal winners is a popular, though challenging, endeavor. At times it's somewhat easy and sometimes, as in the case of The House in the Night, it's much more difficult. Published in a relatively small edition early in the year, by the time the award was announced it had gone through multiple printings. This first edition, first printing features striking scratch-board illustrations by the artist, Beth Krommes, supplementing Susan Marie Swanson's spare, poetic text. The winner of the 2009 Caldecott Award in Fine condition in like dust jacket with signatures by both the author and illustrator on the title page.
