Sixteen-year-old Barney Snow is a patient inside the Complex, an experimental hospital in which he is given mind-shattering drugs called ”the merchandise.” Along with other patients and a love interest from outside, Barney has to discover the secret of the institution and figure a way out. Author Robert Cormier was one of the most influential figures in the rise of young adult literature during the 70’s and 80’s. His book, The Chocolate Game, helped define the genre and The Bumblebee Flies Anyway was a worthy successor. A first edition, Fine in dj, with a lovely inscription and signature by Cormier.
